Your school can text you about your student — attendance, grades, events and schedule changes. This page explains how the service works, how to sign up, how to stop, and what happens to your mobile number.
What this service is
Your school district uses SchoolDay to send text messages to parents, guardians and staff. The school writes the messages and SchoolDay delivers them — we do not use your mobile number for anything else.
Every message names your district — and your school as well, when the message comes from your school — so you always know who it is from:
How to sign up
You sign up yourself, in your school’s parent portal — the same portal you already use to see grades and attendance. No text is ever sent to you before you have signed up.
- Sign in to your school portal with your existing parent, guardian or staff account.
- Open your Parents/Guardians record.
- Enter your cell phone number and tick SMS Text for each kind of notification you want.
The boxes are unticked to begin with, and they are separate from any other terms you accept. Signing up is optional — it is not a condition of enrollment or of any other school service.
The wording you agree to
![By checking this box you agree to receive text messages from [School Name], [District Name]. Reply STOP to opt out. Reply HELP for help. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. https://www.schoolday.com/privacy-policy](https://www.schoolday.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/school-notifications-consent-template.png)
What happens next
We record your mobile number, the date and time, and the account you signed in with, and keep that record for as long as you stay subscribed. You then get one confirmation text. Notifications start after it arrives.
What you will receive
- Academic progress — grades, report cards, assessment results, honor roll and award recognition
- Attendance — absences and tardies
- Behavior — office contacts about conduct
- Meal accounts — balance reminders
- School events — calendar, schedule changes and weather closures
You will not receive marketing. This service carries no promotional messages, no fundraising, and nothing sent on behalf of a third party.
How often
Message frequency varies. It depends on your school and on what is happening with your student. Some weeks bring no messages at all; others bring several.
What it costs
The service is free from your school and from SchoolDay. Your mobile carrier may still charge you.
Message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. You are responsible for the cost of your text messages. If you are not sure what your plan covers, check with your mobile carrier.
Stopping messages
You can stop at any time. Reply STOP to any message from the service. We send one confirmation, then stop texting that number.
To start again, turn notifications back on in your school portal or ask your school office. Stopping texts does not change your email or phone-call notifications, and it does not affect emergency communications your district sends by other means.
Getting help
Reply HELP to any message from the service and we will text you back with contact details.
You can also reach us directly at support@schoolday.com or 888-557-6085.
For anything about the content of a message — a specific absence, grade or event — contact your school office. They write the messages; we only deliver them.
Delivery
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on your mobile network and on your handset, and neither your school nor SchoolDay can guarantee that every message arrives.
Your mobile information
SchoolDay does not sell or disclose data to third parties for sales, marketing or similar commercial purposes. In the normal course of operating this service we may disclose data to:
- third parties authorized by the district to use their data, such as edtech vendors and services
- service providers, for the purpose of enabling them to provide their services in support of the platform
- our employees, contractors and related entities, while supporting the platform
- courts, tribunals, regulatory authorities and law enforcement officers, as required by law
No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
SchoolDay never shares data with third parties without direction from the school district.
The SchoolDay Privacy Policy governs how your mobile number and your opt-in are handled for this service. SchoolDay handles them only as your district’s service provider. Your district’s own privacy policy, published on its website, continues to govern the school records themselves.
